How to Become a Real Estate Agent in Dubai?

Dubai real estate agent

We are all likely to have met one or two real estate agents either for buying or renting a property. They are specially trained and registered real estate professionals who carry out the transaction process related to rent and sales of properties.

This involves listing them on the available platforms, reaching out to people who may wish to buy or rent the properties and completing every other necessary step in order to make a full transaction. Real estate agents represent property owners in most cases.

Why become a real estate agent

Earn good money

Working with a real estate company can be rewarding as you get paid mostly based on the amount of transactions you are able to complete. On the other hand, you can also be earning per basic-pay-plus-commission. It's a sustainable way of making a living.

Get the chance to meet people

Being a real estate agent comes with benefits like creating good communication with different people while engaging them with your property sales and rentals. It increases the chance of meeting people who may be of advantage to you in the future.

Learn as you work

Working as a real estate agent involves a lot of effort to maintain engaging communication not only to generate leads but also to ensure the deal is successfully closed. You do this by brainstorming and applying every effective business strategy to convince people to go for the properties under your listings. This activity gradually trains you up to the knowledge of some business principles and how to gain customers satisfaction.

How to become a real estate agent in Dubai

1. Become a Dubai resident visa holder

This is the first step to take if you're new to the emirate or out of a valid residency visa. It is mandatory for all expats but UAE nationals or GCC citizens only need to proceed to the training and licensing stage.

So if you are an expat, you should get a valid residency visa. It should be issued by a real estate company where you are going to work. Ensure to also obtain a valid Emirates ID to get started.

2. Apply for the approved training

Training of real estate agents in Dubai is provided by Dubai Real Estate Institute (DREI). This is the official training platform for real estate agents in Dubai. It starts by giving you sufficient insights to enable you to carry out your role effectively while being professional.

The regulatory body in charge of this real estate training platform and certifications are the Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) in Dubai and the Dubai Land Department (DLD).

You need to complete a 12 hour educational program which lasts 2 working days. The cost of the course is 2,000 AED (550 USD).

3. Take the exam

Upon completion of the training section under the Dubai Real Estate Institution, you will take the necessary exam under the supervision of the RERA system.

Exam will cover questions regarding real estate registration, ethics of real estate brokers, marketing, transferring of real estate ownership and other. Your exam score should not be less than 70% to become eligible for the broker’s ID.

4. Obtain Dubai real estate broker’s ID

Once you pass the DREI exam, you will be issued a license that now permits you to work as a real estate agent or broker under the RERA system in Dubai. This license is renewed annually and it's your password to operate as a certified broker in Dubai.

How to renew your real estate license

Just as stated earlier, the real estate license in Dubai needs to be renewed on an annual basis. You get the license together with your agency card which is also part of your crucial identity as a real estate broker in Dubai. To renew your real estate license, you need to take the RERA exam again of which you must score upto 85% to get started with the renewal process which is usually done online. Failure to renew the real estate license when due may result in its cancellation by the relevant authorities. And once it’s been canceled, you need to retake the training and exams to reclaim the license.
