Procedures to renew Indian passport in Dubai
To renew your Indian passport in Dubai or any of the Emirates of the UAE, it is advisable to start the application a few months before the expiry date to be on a safer side.
If your Indian passport expires before you commence the process, you may need to present additional documents including stating why you applied late for a new passport. The same applies to having an expired residence visa while applying for the renewal of a passport.
So the first thing to do while trying to renew your Indian passport in the UAE is to gather all the necessary documents. You will have to start the application online then subsequently visit the BLS service centre to complete the process. So let's look at the necessary things to get ready while renewing your Indian passport.
How to renew indian passport in the UAE:
- Visit the BLS website to book an appointment and to also fill the required forms. Optionally, you may choose to contact the BLS service centre in the Emirate you are or visit any of their service centres.
- Book an appointment online.
- Present the necessary documents.
- Fill the renewal and personal particular form (from the BLS website).
- Make payments.
- Then proceed to the Indian embassy with the required documents and application forms to complete the face to face process.
Once you have done the necessary things, you will be given a receipt and tracking number. This will enable you to check the status of your application at the BLS online portal. Then you have to wait for the passport to be ready, this may take up to 5 business days.
Documents required for indian passport renewal:
- Filled copy of the application form
- Filled copy of the personal particular form (this allows for Police investigation department to check if you have any criminal records)
- Clear copy of your Indian passport
- Up to 6 copies of your photo passport with dark dressing in a white background.
There are certain scenarios when you may need to provide additional documents such as request letter, sworn affidavit, no objection letter from sponsor. Such cases are:
- Renewing passports for a minor
- Having an expired residence permit
- Applying for a passport renewal in Dubai with residence visa from Abu Dhabi or other Emirates and vice versa.
- If your passport has been expired for up to 6 months

The Tatkal service is an online platform that manages the issuance and renewal of passports. It is faster and very suitable for cases when you may need the passport renewed before the usual 5 working days. It's normally ready within 2 working days but is generally costlier than the manual process.
