Can parents sponsor their child in Dubai?

The answer is definitely yes. Basic conditions for UAE residence visa for children need to be met:

  • A sponsor needs to have valid resident visa
  • Original Emirates ID of the sponsor is required
  • Sponsor’s presence in the UAE during visa processing
  • Minimum salary of the sponsor should be 3,000 AED plus accommodation. If the sponsor is a woman and she sponsors her full family, her minimum salary should be 10,000 AED
  • If the father of the child resides in the UAE and meet the basic requirements for child’s visa sponsorship, the mother is not allowed to sponsor the visa

You can sponsor your children up to the age of 25 years old (however, if it’s a daughter, she should be unmarried). It comes as a huge benefit of the so-called “Green Visa” initiative of the UAE government. Previously, the maximum age was 18 years old only.

Steps to sponsor a child in Dubai

Once the sponsor obtains UAE residency, rents out accommodation and opens up a personal bank account, it becomes possible to sponsor the dependents.

The process goes as follows:

  1. Entry visa: 1-3 days

It can be issued for a child who is out of UAE or already in the UAE. It is valid for 60 days. During this time it has to be converted into a visa stamp in the passport.

  1. Status change: 1 day

It needs to be done only if the child was already in the UAE when the entry visa was issued. If he/she is out of the UAE and is going to come using the entry visa, status change will not be required.

  1. Application for Emirates ID + Medical check: 1 day

Children do not need to do fingerprints scanning for Emirates ID, so only typing will be enough. Medical check is required only for those above 17 years old.

  1. Health insurance: 1 day

You need to get health insurance after the Emirates ID application is done.

  1. Visa stamping: 1 day

Pink visa stickers are placed into passports.

  1. Emirates ID: 1-5 days

Emirates IDs will be issued shortly after the visa stamping.

Many of the above procedures can be done within the same day, which makes the whole process of UAE resident visa for children very short. Usually overall it takes 2-4 days.
