How to get a car wash license in the UAE
- Choose the type of car wash. Decide whether you’ll operate a stationary car wash (requires the activity code Car Washing Services) or a mobile car wash (requires the activity Mobile Car Wash).
- Register your company. To set up in the mainland (through the Department of Economic Development), you'll need a local partner holding 51% ownership. In UAE free zones like DMCC or RAKEZ, 100% foreign ownership is allowed.
- Prepare your technical setup. For stationary car washes: operations must be located in commercial or industrial zones and include proper water treatment systems. For mobile services: you'll need a special permit and must register your vehicle as commercial.
- Meet regulatory requirements. Use only biodegradable cleaning agents, ensure proper waste disposal, and comply with labor laws for hiring and managing staff.
Environmental and sanitary requirements for a car wash license in the UAE
- Cleanliness & eco standards. Stationary setups must include water filtration/recycling systems. Only eco-friendly detergents are allowed, and waste disposal must follow approved procedures.
- Technical compliance. All equipment must meet UAE standards, including water pressure controls, recycling features, and valid technical certifications.
- Staff requirements. Employees must have valid work visas, employment contracts, and health insurance, with salaries paid on time in accordance with UAE labor law.
