HIGHLIGHTS
- An ADAFZ license is a flat AED 4,000 a year; a working Flexi Desk LLC costs AED 14,590.
- The AED 1,500 visa fee excludes medical and Emirates ID, and an LLC must prove AED 25,000 in an Abu Dhabi bank within six months.
- The bank account, not the license, decides whether this structure works. We pre-screen banking before you pay.
Abu Dhabi Airports Free Zone (ADAFZ) operates across three airports: Abu Dhabi International, Al Ain International and Al Bateen Executive. In 2026 the license costs a flat AED 4,000 a year; a working Flexi Desk LLC starts at AED 14,590. Visas and an AED 25,000 capital-proof rule sit on top. It is not KEZAD, and it is not Dubai's DAFZ.
How much does an ADAFZ license cost?
An ADAFZ license costs a flat AED 4,000 per year, the same for Trading, Services and Light Industrial activities. The license, however, is the smallest line in the budget. A working LLC on a Flexi Desk costs AED 14,590 in year one. That figure breaks down into registration AED 3,500, license AED 4,000, Flexi Desk AED 4,000, establishment card AED 830 and online system activation AED 2,260.
The table shows how the package scales with visas. The zone's advertised package price is lower than these totals because it excludes the immigration infrastructure a working company needs.
| Component | 1 visa | 2 visas | 3 visas |
|---|---|---|---|
| Registration (LLC, one-time) | AED 3,500 | AED 3,500 | AED 3,500 |
| License (annual) | AED 4,000 | AED 4,000 | AED 4,000 |
| Facility (annual) | Flexi Desk — AED 4,000 | Flexi Desk — AED 4,000 | Executive Office — AED 43,340 |
| Establishment card (3 years) | AED 830 | AED 830 | AED 830 |
| Online system activation (one-time) | AED 2,260 | AED 2,260 | AED 2,260 |
| Employment visas (AED 1,500 × N) | AED 1,500 | AED 3,000 | AED 4,500 |
| Medical + Emirates ID (× N) | Not published | Not published | Not published |
| Total before deposits, medical/EID and VAT | AED 16,090 | AED 17,590 | AED 58,430 |
| Refundable deposits (facility + visas) | AED 4,500 | AED 7,000 | AED 17,500 |
| Cash out, year one | AED 20,590 | AED 24,590 | AED 75,930 |
Two things in that ladder matter. A Flexi Desk includes two visas, so the second visa adds only the AED 1,500 fee — two visas for almost the price of one. The third visa changes the product. A Flexi Desk caps at two, so visa three requires an Executive Office at AED 43,340, and the total jumps 3.3×.
Our guide to Business setup in Abu Dhabi explains how ADAFZ compares with other jurisdictions in the emirate.

Get your ADAFZ cost breakdownWhat does the headline price omit?
The AED 14,590 covers incorporation only: registration, license, Flexi Desk, establishment card and system activation. Visas, government procedures, refundable deposits, VAT and statutory share capital all sit outside it.
| Cost item | Amount | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Company incorporation (registration) | AED 3,500 | Included |
| Annual license | AED 4,000 | Included |
| Flexi Desk facility | AED 4,000 | Included |
| Establishment card + system activation | AED 3,090 | Included |
| Employment visa fee | AED 1,500 per person | Charged separately |
| Medical fitness test + Emirates ID | Not published by ADAFZ | Charged separately |
| Refundable deposits (Flexi Desk / per visa) | AED 2,000 / AED 2,500 | Paid up front, returned later |
| LLC share capital | AED 25,000 (AED 150,000 Light Industrial) | Deposited in an Abu Dhabi bank within 6 months |
Founders should distinguish between government fees and statutory capital. The AED 25,000 remains the company's asset rather than a payment to ADAFZ. It must still be deposited into an Abu Dhabi bank within six months of incorporation. Branch companies are exempt from this requirement.
The deposits are refundable, but the cash leaves your account in month one. Budget for the full cash-out figure, not the package total.
What does each ADAFZ visa really cost?
ADAFZ publishes AED 1,500 for a two-year employment visa — and that is not the full per-person cost. Medical fitness and Emirates ID are not in the zone's schedule at all. Comparable Abu Dhabi zones price the complete route at AED 4,100–5,900. Request the full visa cost sheet before budgeting headcount.
| Visa cost component | ADAFZ published fee |
|---|---|
| Immigration application (2-year employment visa) | AED 1,500 |
| Refundable deposit, per employee | AED 2,500 |
| Local amendment (if applicable) | AED 800 |
| Medical fitness test | Not published |
| Emirates ID | Not published |
| Full per-person cost | Not published — request a visa cost sheet |
The distinction matters because other jurisdictions advertise all-inclusive visa packages. Those figures are not comparable with ADAFZ's AED 1,500 unless they cover the same procedures.
Every residence visa follows the same sequence after approval: medical fitness testing, Emirates ID enrolment and visa issuance. Each stage carries its own government charge. Keep the AED 2,500 deposit separate in your budget — it is refundable, unlike the fees.
How do visa entitlements work at ADAFZ?
An ADAFZ company's visa quota depends on the facility it leases, not on the license. A Flexi Desk supports up to two residence visas and an Executive Office up to three. Rented space earns one visa per 8 m² of office or 16 m² of warehouse.
| Facility | Annual cost | Visa entitlement |
|---|---|---|
| Flexi Desk | AED 4,000 | Up to 2 |
| Executive Desk | AED 15,220 | Up to 2 |
| Executive Office | AED 43,340 | Up to 3 |
| Fitted office | AED 650–1,500 per m², by airport | 1 visa per 8 m² |
| Warehouse (Abu Dhabi Airport) | AED 600 per m² | 1 visa per 16 m² |
Many founders choose a workspace off today's headcount alone. If the team grows past two people, the facility — and the budget — changes with it. In our experience, visa planning should start from the team you expect in two to three years.
If you are relocating shareholders or employees, our guide to UAE residence visas explains the process and documents required after incorporation.
What does a real year-one ADAFZ setup actually cost?
A realistic year-one budget for a solo founder is AED 20,590 in cash, of which AED 4,500 later returns as refundable deposits. Non-refundable spend is AED 16,090, before medical, Emirates ID and VAT. A further AED 25,000 must be available as statutory share capital.
| Example: one shareholder, Services LLC, Flexi Desk, one visa | AED | Refundable? |
|---|---|---|
| Registration (one-time) | 3,500 | No |
| Services license (annual) | 4,000 | No |
| Flexi Desk (annual) | 4,000 | No |
| Establishment card (3 years) | 830 | No |
| Online system activation (one-time) | 2,260 | No |
| Employment visa (2 years) | 1,500 | No |
| Medical fitness + Emirates ID | Not published — request a quote | No |
| Flexi Desk deposit | 2,000 | Yes |
| Employment visa deposit | 2,500 | Yes |
| Cash out, year one (before medical/EID and VAT) | 20,590 | 4,500 returns |
| Non-refundable spend | 16,090 | — |
The worked example shows why headline prices mislead. A company that is ready to operate needs more than the license line. It needs the immigration infrastructure, the deposits and — within six months — a funded Abu Dhabi bank account.
That makes banking part of the setup itself, not a task for later. The next question is whether the account will actually open.
Can an ADAFZ company actually open a UAE bank account?
Yes — banks open accounts for ADAFZ companies, but approval depends on the business, not the zone. An LLC must show AED 25,000 in an Abu Dhabi bank within six months of incorporation, so here the account is structural, not optional.
| Banking factor | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Source of funds | The main driver of approval; it must be documented in writing. |
| Shareholder profile | Banks verify residency, background and source of wealth. |
| Business activity | Some sectors trigger enhanced compliance checks. |
| Business substance | Contracts, invoices and a client pipeline strengthen the file. |
| Residence visa | In most cases, a UAE residence visa is required to open an account. |
Treat any free-zone "bank assistance" as an introduction, not an opened account. The zone hands you to a banker, and the banker picks the simple, profitable files. The source-of-funds file and the six-month clock remain yours. A zero-visa company can apply, but its route is materially narrower — for the owner, a residence visa is a strong recommendation.
A corporate account takes from two weeks to three months, and a bank may decline even a clean profile. Then the six-month clock is already running. The operating budget adds visas, a minimum balance of AED 10,000–250,000+ by bank, and compliance documents. The full process: opening a UAE corporate bank account.
Company registration is only the first step. We pre-screen your source of funds against Abu Dhabi banks before you pay the AED 14,590 — if the AED 25,000 cannot land cleanly, we say so up front.
Review my banking fitDoes an ADAFZ company need an audit — and who can do it?
Every ADAFZ company must keep proper accounting records and prepare annual financial statements. Whether a statutory audit is mandatory depends on the legal structure and license conditions; the zone does not publish a blanket rule. Where an audit applies, a UAE-licensed audit firm must perform it.
| Requirement | ADAFZ LLC | ADAFZ Branch |
|---|---|---|
| Accounting records | Required | Required |
| Annual financial statements | Required | Required |
| Audit by UAE-licensed auditor | Depends on structure and license conditions | Depends on structure and license conditions |
Founders often assume a free zone removes accounting obligations. It does not: every UAE company should maintain proper records regardless of whether an audit is ultimately required.
Accurate records from year one also support corporate banking, corporate tax filing and license renewals. If you need help with the audit itself, see our guide to audit services.
Can an ADAFZ company work on the UAE mainland?
Yes. An ADAFZ company can serve mainland customers, subject to the rules for its activity. For direct onshore operations without a local sponsor, it can apply for a dual license. The Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADED) issues it and charges its own fee, which the zone's schedule does not include.
| Business activity | Mainland access |
|---|---|
| Services to mainland clients | Yes, subject to applicable UAE regulations |
| Selling goods to mainland customers | Yes, via customs and distribution procedures |
| Direct onshore operations | Via ADED dual license, without a local sponsor |
| Government contracts / regulated activities | May require additional registrations or sector licensing |
The key distinction is between where the company is incorporated and how it does business. Services often flow directly; physical goods move through customs procedures and import records.

When is ADAFZ the wrong choice?
ADAFZ is the wrong choice when its structural requirements clash with your case. Three disqualifiers come straight from the zone's own rules — check them before paying for anything.
| ADAFZ is wrong for you if... | Why |
|---|---|
| AED 25,000 cannot reach an Abu Dhabi bank within six months | The LLC route closes by design; the deadline is structural (AED 150,000 for Light Industrial). |
| You need a Dubai presence for clients or staff | Three Abu Dhabi sites do not replace it; Dubai Airport Free Zone (DAFZ) is the DXB alternative. |
| Your headcount budget is built on the AED 1,500 visa fee | The full per-person stack is unpublished and materially higher. |
| You run port-side logistics or heavy industry | Khalifa Port is KEZAD territory, not ADAFZ. |
Who fits: trading, logistics and aviation-services businesses with real cargo flows. Access to the airports' cargo infrastructure gives them an operating history that bank compliance can verify. That is a genuine advantage, though not a promise of easier account opening.
The decision should also weigh future growth: visa needs, banking expectations and office plans usually matter more than the initial fee. To compare ADAFZ with other zones, see our UAE free zone company formation guide.
Bottom line
ADAFZ's license is a flat AED 4,000 a year — so the numbers to watch sit elsewhere. A working Flexi Desk LLC costs AED 14,590, and the published visa fee is not the full stack. AED 25,000 must also reach an Abu Dhabi bank within six months. For trading and logistics profiles with clean source of funds, that is a fair deal. For anyone budgeting off the sticker, it is a deadline they have not seen yet.
